Good Practice using Copyright is an informative video, produced by the Victorian TAFE Association, which covers the basics of copyright and obligations in terms of permissions and attribution of resources.
This form is for requesting permission for third party resources. If permission is obtained please forward to the Copyright Officer for inclusion in the SWTAFE Permissions Register.
The legitimate use of material created by others (text, images etc) in teaching and learning is encouraged and supported here at South West Insitute of TAFE.
Under copyright law, limits exist as to what, and how much can be copied and/or communicated online. It is the responsibility of staff working on the production of teaching materials for delivery to students to be familiar with, and comply with their obligation as set out in the Institutes Copyright Policy
SWTAFE pays an annual fee so that staff are able to copy and communicate text and artistic works for educational purposes under a licence in the Copyright Act known as the Statutory Text and Artistic Works Licence. Under this licence, staff can copy or communicate a "reasonable portion" of the work
A reasonable portion of each work is:
Books | 10% or one chapter. Only one chapter or 10% from a book can be online through Moodle at one time across all courses. |
Journals/Magazines | One article from a journal or more than one if on the same subject matter. |
Images | Use resources which are free for educational purposes. See Free Resources link above |
Commercially produced DVDs, films and videos | Can be played in class for educational use but cannot be copied or put online unless permission is sought from the copyright owner. |
Streamed videos and Youtube | Link or embed to subscribed or publicly accessible videos rather than copying or uploading items to Moodle. See Linking above on how to do this. |
